Message from Michelle

As the semester winds down, all of the students in the College Courtyard Apartments will be focusing on final exams and papers. Please be considerate of your fellow residents who are “burning the midnight oil” and limit excess noise, loud music/TV and parties. I especially want to thank each of you for your cooperation and special effort in helping to keep the complex clean. We continually strive to keep the complex clean, quiet and safe for all of our residents. Happy holidays to each of you and may all of you get A+ on your final exams.

Snacks Available

As you study for your exams does the grumble of your stomach keep you from concentrating? A quick snack can help you quell those hunger pangs. New snack and drink machines are available in the first floor laundry room. It’s quick, easy and convenient.

Watch Your Step

As winter arrives, we must be ready for inclement weather and especially snowstorms. Please be careful and watch your step if a snowstorm should occur. We shovel snow and sand the sidewalks and steps after every storm but you should be cautious never the less. The sidewalk on the north side of the building gets little sun in the winter and the steep hill can be treacherous. Please be careful.

Vacuum

A vacuum is available for your use. If you wish to borrow our vacuum it can be checked out at the office. Please return the vacuum immediately after use, as other students may need to use it.

Laundry Rooms Don’t Like Cold Weather

During the cold winter months it is important that the windows in the laundry rooms remain closed. Open windows may cause the pipes to freeze and cause considerable damage. This will force us to close the laundry rooms until they are repaired. None of us want that to happen so please be careful.

Interesting Fact: Valentine Tapley promised to never shave again if Abraham Lincoln was elected president. He died in 1910 with a 12-foot-long beard.

Please Don’t Drink and Drive

Your safety is important to us. Please don’t drink and drive. If you drink alcohol (please be 21 years of age and older) get a designated driver or walk home. Don’t ruin your life with a DUI or worse, death of yourself or others. It’s not worth it.

Need More Storage Space?

The College Courtyard has storage lockers available for rent for only $25 per month. The 4’ by 5’ lockers are located on the second and third floors. These storage lockers are a great place to store skis, bicycles, or camping equipment. See Michelle for more information.

Free DSL/Wireless is a $360 Value

In this economy, every dollar saved can help pay for books and tuition. That’s why living at the College Courtyard Apartments is the best value for University of Nevada students. We offer free DSL/wireless to every bedroom. That free DSL/wireless would cost you $360 per year at other apartment complexes or rental houses.

Interesting fact: 'Go', is the shortest complete sentence in the English language.

Laundry

Please be considerate of your neighbors and do not leave your clothes in the washers or dryers unattended after the washing and drying cycle.

For Your Safety

The safety of our residents is of the highest priority. The College Courtyard Apartments are under 24-hour video surveillance and all entrances are gated. You can do your part to make sure the College Courtyard Apartments are a secure and safe place to live. Never give your key or garage transmitter to others. Report any damage or repairs that may be necessary to maintain safe conditions. That would include lights out in the common areas, parking garage, stairwells, front entrance and laundry rooms.

Interesting Fact: It took 200,000 years for humans to reach 3 billion in number. It took 40 years for the next 3 billion.

No Beer Kegs

Beer kegs are strictly forbidden at the College Courtyard Apartments.  Kegs are not allowed on the courtyard or in individual apartments. All of your leases clearly state that large gatherings are prohibited. Kegs are only for large gatherings. Please be aware that if you bring a keg onto the property we will begin eviction proceedings immediately.

Your Free Parking Is a $400 Value

Parking at the University of Nevada is expensive. Silver permit parking is real expensive. The annual fee to park in a silver permit lot is $400. The parking lot at the southwest corner of Sierra and 11th is silver permit parking. Right across the street is the College Courtyard Apartments. Our residents enjoy the value of silver permit parking for free. Go to unr.edu and find the parking permit and fee map to compare.

Student Fitness Center - Close to College Courtyard

From the Reno Gazette Journal:

The E. L. Wiegand Foundation announced today it is making an $8 million gift to build a four-story student fitness center at the University of Nevada, Reno set to open in late 2016.
The fitness center will boost the university’s ability to attract and retain students, UNR president Marc Johnson said.

“As a university, we are developing and investing in our state’s human capital,” Johnson said. “The E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center will greatly contribute to the competitiveness of this university. “

In addition to the Wiegand Foundation’s gift and other potential private funding, the university is considering charging user fees to support the construction and operation of the new student fitness center. The facility also will be open to faculty and staff.

The 110,000-square-foot facility will be built on the parking lot along the 15th Street entrance to the campus, just south of the Lawlor Events Center.

The fitness center design includes areas for weightlifting, training and numerous fitness classes and activities, plus an indoor 1/8th mile running track.

The center will have three full-court gymnasiums for basketball, volleyball, tennis and other indoor-court sports.

“There is a tremendous amount of research and data that connects student fitness levels to improved cognitive function, academic performance, social networks and engagement on campus, plus a decrease in stress and anxiety,” said Jim Fitzsimmons, UNR’s director of campus recreation and wellness.

Surveys have shown that as many as 30 percent of students based their selection of a college or university on the fitness and wellness resources available, said Fitzsimmons, whose doctoral thesis was on the role of student recreation centers in the recruitment and retention of undergraduate students,.

He said up to 75 percent of students say recreation and fitness facilities contributed to their decision to remain at an institution until graduation.

The E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center will nearly triple the space dedicated to fitness and recreation at UNR. The existing Lombardi Recreation Center was meant primarily to support physical education programs when it opened in 1974. Back then, UNR’s enrollment was about 4,000 students compared to the more than 18,000 students on campus today.

Once the new fitness center opens, Lombardi Recreation will continue to support academic programming and intramural sports, plus serve as the training site for the women’s swimming and diving team, UNR officials said.

The plan is to renovate the gymnasiums and use them for additional training space for other Wolf Pack Athletics programs such as basketball or volleyball.

We want to remind all of our students not to drink and drive. Don’t ruin your life with a DUI or worse a fatal car accident by drinking and driving. Call a cab, get a designated driver who will not drink or walk home. The life you may be saving could be your own.

City of Reno Party Ordinance

The Reno City Council approved the Social Host ordinance to provide criminal and administrative penalties for disruptive parties, and to help reduce underage drinking and related issues. The City will issue the property owner a citation and fine if a party is conducted that requires the Reno police to make a visit. As your leases clearly do not allow disruptive parties at the College Courtyard we should not have a problem. Please keep in mind,  however, that your leases clearly state that if we are fined by the City of Reno for a disruptive party we will pass the fine and an administrative penalty on the offending residents.

Each four bedroom apartment has two bathrooms. There is a sink and vanity in each bedroom

We have both garage and street level parking available (Your Choice). The garage is gated. No stacked/tandem parking!!!

The College Courtyard Apartments are one short block from the center of campus. No waiting for a shuttle (that never comes when you need it) or paying for expensive parking permits that are still miles from your class.

No Stacked/Tandem Parking at the College Courtyard

Some of our neighboring apartment complexes (to the east and north - OK, College Terrace) have stacked/tandem parking. One car is parked in front of the other. Can you imagine needing to go somewhere and the owner of the car behind you is nowhere to be found? That won't happen at the College Courtyard. All of our residents have single garage or permit street parking. In the garage or on the street...it's the student's choice.

Security Is Important At The College Courtyard Apartments

Security at the College Courtyard Apartments is a priority. All of our entrances are under 24 hour video surveillance. Recently we installed additional gates and barriers to make the complex even more secure. At night the College Courtyard Apartments are very well lit and there are no dark corners. We encourage our residents to monitor carefully who is buzzed into the courtyard. We are a friendly place to live with just 60 students. Unlike the 700 student party complexes on the far east side of the University, we offer a great environment for the serious student seeking a safe and secure place to live. Google some of the party apartment complexes in the area and see the police calls. Would you want your son or daughter living in that environment (at night?)? We don't think so.

Why The College Courtyard Apartments Are A Better Choice

The College Courtyard Apartments are the best for University of Nevada student living. Here's a few reasons why:

•We are on a quiet side street on the West side (the best side) of the University of Nevada. Seminary Avenue is quiet with little traffic (unlike very busy and noisy Sierra Street).

•You don't need to worry or pay for shuttle service. The shuttles to some apartment complexes are expensive and only come infrequently.

•No stacked/tandem parking. Each resident of the College Courtyard has an assigned parking space or open streetside parking (Your choice). Our neighboring apartment complex (College Terrace) has stacked parking - one car behind the other. Very inconvenient.

•Each bedroom has a sink and vanity. No waiting for your roommate to get ready.

•Free DSL.

•We have very well insulated apartments with double pane windows. This keeps the power bill low both in the summer and the winter.

•We pride ourselves in keeping the building in great condition.

•We are locally owned and operated by University of Nevada graduates - not some faceless corporation or out of the area owner.

There's a reason the College Courtyard Apartments are always full. We have great students as residents. Google our competitors. One was ordered by the City of Reno to hire security guards as there were so many unruly parties. No wonder they slashed their prices. Ask to walk around the complex of our neighbors without being escorted. Sure the model rooms look good.....check out where you really will live. Some don't even shampoo the carpets before you move in. Yes, you get what you pay for. There is a reason we are considered the premier off campus place for University of Nevada students. We offer the best value, location and amenities for the student dollar. And we are nice people too. We appreciate our residents and want them to truly enjoy their college experience.

Message from Michelle

I hope that all of you have had a wonderful summer. As the new school year is just weeks away, we are preparing for our annual influx of new students. For those of you who will be leaving us, please break down any boxes you put into the dumpster. We have arranged for daily pickup during the move-out and move-in period but the dumpster still fills up fast if boxes are not broken down. As always, it gets hectic around here during flip-week but our goal is to get the entire complex up to perfect so that the new students have a great new home.

Safety is Important

The safety of our residents is of the highest priority. The College Courtyard Apartments are under 24-hour video surveillance and all entrances are gated. You can do your part to make sure the College Courtyard Apartments are a secure and safe place to live. Never give your key or garage transmitter to others. Please report any damage or repairs that may be necessary to maintain safe conditions. That would include lights out in the common areas, parking garage, stairwells, front entrance and laundry rooms. We also ask that when ever possible you walk in groups and never alone at night. The escort service number is 784-6808.

Laundry Rooms

Please be considerate of your neighbors and do not leave your clothes in the washers or dryers unattended after the washing and drying cycle

Vacuum

A vacuum is available for your use. If you wish to borrow our vacuum it can be checked out at the office. Please return the vacuum immediately after use, as other students may need to use it.

Computer Lab

Residents using the computer lab during evenings or weekends need to sign-in before using the computers. These computers are for our residents only and we want to ensure that our residents have access to the computers when desired.

Loading Zone

Please be aware that the parking enforcement officers for the City of Reno will ticket cars that are parked in our loading zone for long periods of time. This ticketing will be done regardless of whether or not the car has a Seminary Avenue parking permit.
