College Courtyard Apartments June 2008 Newsletter

College Courtyard Blog

The College Courtyard Apartments has a blog. Our blog web address is collegecourtyard.blogspot.com. We post the monthly newsletter and use the blog as a way of communicating important information.

Enjoy the Courtyard

The courtyard is a great place to catch some rays of sun or just relax. There are tables with umbrellas available for your enjoyment. Please remember to lower the umbrellas after use (especially on windy days). The bar-b-que is available for grilling but please keep the area clean and pick up after all courtyard meals.

Useless Fact: The sun shrinks five feet every hour.

More Uselessness: Indonesia consists only of islands - 13,667 altogether.

No Beer Kegs

Beer kegs are strictly forbidden at the College Courtyard Apartments. Kegs are not allowed on the courtyard or in individual apartments. All of your leases clearly state that large gatherings are prohibited. Kegs are only for large gatherings. Please be aware that if you bring a keg onto the property we will begin eviction proceedings immediately

Useless Fact: The word Karate means, "empty hand."

Message from Rebecca

Security is important to all of us at the College Courtyard Apartments. We recently added additional barriers and fencing to improve the safety of all of our residents. Additional fencing will be installed this summer. Please do not let non-residents into the complex when you enter or exit the building. Please ask them to use the intercom system so we know people in the building have permission from a resident. At times like this, we must be more diligent about our safety. On a different topic, even though it is summer, many of our residents are taking summer school. Please be mindful that they are studying and need quiet.

Useless Fact: There are about 6,800 languages in the world.

Parking is Free and Easy

As many of you have heard, the University of Nevada continues to increase the parking fees on campus. The University has parking fee increases scheduled every year for the next five years. Fortunately, the residents of the College Courtyard Apartments don’t have to worry about these increases. Our residents enjoy free parking that is close to the campus. With our students, instead of driving round and round looking for a parking space you can have another 20 minutes of precious sleep. That’s a real bonus and another benefit of living at the College Courtyard.

Useless Fact: Honorificabilitudinitatibus is the longest English word that consists strictly of alternating consonants and vowels.

Street Parking

If you park on the street, new permits will be available the last week of the month at the College Courtyard office.

No Smoking

The College Courtyard Apartments are non-smoking student residences. Smoking is prohibited in the apartments, on the walkways, balconies and the courtyard. Guests entering the apartments with a cigarette may extinguish them in the urns by the front gate.

Useless Fact: The oil that is found in poison ivy is called "urushiol."

No Parking

The area in front of the dumpster is a no parking zone. Cars parked in the area in front of the dumpster are subject to towing. In addition, Reno Disposal writes down the license plate number of cars that block the dumpster and violators may have to pay for additional garbage pickups.

More Useless Facts: According to the Gemological Institute of America, up until the 1730's, India was the only source for diamonds in the world.

Need Storage For The Summer?

The College Courtyard has storage lockers available for rent for only $25 per month. The 4’ by 5’ lockers are located on the second and third floors. These storage lockers are a great place to store skis, bicycles, or camping equipment. See Rebecca for more information.

Garbage Tossing Is Not Sport

Please be considerate and do not throw your garbage from the stairwell landing towards the dumpster. Many times your aim is not on target and a mess is created. This is both unsightly and unsanitary. We would appreciate your cooperation

Useless Fact: The driest place on earth is Calama, in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

Vacuum

A vacuum is available for your use. If you wish to borrow our vacuum it can be checked out at the office. Please return the vacuum immediately after use, as other students may need to use it.

More Useless Facts: A "gelotologist" is a person who studies laughter.

Summer Residents

Please be advised that if you sublet your apartment during the summer you must have prior approval from management.

Uselessness Again: The word, tattoo originated from the Tahitain word "tattau" which means "to mark."

Watch the Gate

Please be very careful when driving through the garage gate. If the gate is going down, DO NOT try to slip under the gate. Once the gate begins to go down it will not stop if you press the button on the garage gate opener. It will only stop when it hits something and it could do considerable damage to both your car and the gate if this occurs. The gate is set to stay up an adequate amount of time for one car. You will be held responsible for any damage if the camera shows that you tried to slip through the gate inappropriately.

Useless Fact: Each day the sun causes about one trillion tons of water to evaporate.

Laundry Rooms

Please be considerate of your neighbors and do not leave your clothes in the washers or dryers unattended after the washing and drying cycle

Sierra Street Lights

The Nevada Department of Transportation will install in-pavement flashing lights at two more crosswalks near the University of Nevada, Reno this summer. The new flashing crosswalks will go in at the Virginia and 10th streets crosswalk and the Sierra Street and College Court crosswalk
